Diamond absorption

WebDiamond is transparent from the UV (225 nm) to the far infrared. Only minor absorption bands exist resulting from two-phonon absorption between 2.5 and 6.5 µm. This makes diamond an ideal material for multispectral optical applications. Diamond’s optical properties are isotropic with an index of refraction of 2.4 in the visible region. WebNBR (acrylonitrile butadiene rubber) was used as the analyzed rubber material. Fig. 1 shows an overlay of spectra obtained for NBR containing carbon in amounts ranging from 1 to 50 wt% using a diamond prism (refractive index, n = 2.4). From the bottom of Fig. 1, the respective amounts of carbon are 1, 3, 5, 10, 16, 20, 30, 40, and 50 wt%.

WebThe absorption coefficient of a 1 cm thick diamond is 12.3 cm −1 at 2000 cm −1 (Tang et al. 2005): this enables the conversion from absorbance to absorption coefficient to be made without measuring the path length through the diamond, which can be difficult in the case of gem-cut samples that are designed to produce multiple internal ... WebDiamond has extraordinary optical characteristics. It is transparent in the ultraviolet, visible, infrared and microwave spectral regions. The absorption coefficient of diamond depends on the laser wavelength and on the properties of the carbon material as shown in Figure 1 [].Some crystals are almost transparent to laser light, while others strongly absorb it.
